In the last regular season game of the year, RIC pummelled Springfield College 12-2. Kyle Short led the points brigade with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Greg Dicomitis, Rob Reall and Jack Adamo also had 2 goals a piece. Bo Atwell and Brad Conway each had a hat trick of assists, while Mike Young, Andy Buchanan, Dan Nadeau and Larry Anthony accounted for the rest of the goals. Joey Delsignore, Robert Isabella, Alex Murray and John Ruggeri also made the scoresheet via assists. Goaltender Eric Moscarelli played 44 minutes and stopped 11 of 12 while Alan Duda played the remaining 16 minutes and stopped 6 of 7 in the win.
RIC finishes up the regular season with a 19-4-2 record, and looks ahead to playoff games this Saturday and Sunday in Nashua, New Hampshire at the Conway Ice Arena. More details about the playoffs are to come.
To finish up another 3-day weekend, RIC pounded 12 goals in on Colonial division rivals Lyndon State. The crowded scoresheet was dominated by Greg Dicomitis, who managed to score 4 goals, and Rob Reall, who scored 1 and had 5 assists. Dan Nadeau and Andy Buchanan scored 2 goals each, while Brad Conway, Nico Drougas and Bobby Isabella scored the other 3 goals. Goaltender Eric Moscarelli managed to stop 43 of 47 shots faced to ensure the 12-4 win. The win clinches the Colonial division for RIC and makes their overall record an astounding 18-3-2.
2 regular season games remain for RIC: this Friday’s last home game against Connecticut College and an away game at Springfield College the following Saturday. This Friday’s game is Senior Night, where we honor the seniors who will be graduating from RIC and leaving the team after this year. Defencemen Mike Accari, Mike Butler, Joey Delsignore, & Ariel Kurplewski, forwards Adam Alexander & Dan Nadeau and goaltender Alan Duda will all be honored. RIC will be out looking for revenge on Senior Night too, as the last time RIC faced Conn. College the game ended in an 8-1 loss. Gametime is 8pm on Friday the 12th and the location is Dennis Lynch Ice Arena in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
The following Saturday, RIC travelled up to Babson College to face off against Babson College. Despite a few fights and a harsh home crowd,a goal a piece from Greg Dicomitis and Brad Conway proved to be more than what RIC needed as goaltender Alan Duda shut out the Babson squad with 29 saves. The 2-0 victory makes RIC’s season record an impressive 17 wins, 3 losses and 2 overtime losses.
Robert Isabella, Greg Dicomitis and Jack Adamo each recorded a 2 goal game on Friday the 5th as RIC re-matched Tufts on their home ice. RIC managed 8 goals total to Tufts’ 4 to secure another divisional win. Mike Young and newcomer Andy Buchanan also scored a goal a piece. Goaltender Eric Moscarelli stopped 12 of 13 in the first period-and-a-half while netminder John Sgambato stopped 17 of 20 in the remaining 30 minutes. With this win RIC’s record soars to 16-3-0-2.
RIC’s three day weekend ended with a divisional matchup against Tufts University. RIC played solid hockey and cruised to a 6-2 victory behind Rob Reall’s 2 goals, goals from Bobby Isabella, Tom Votta, Seth Tobias and newcomer Cody Warnock, and goaltender Eric Moscarelli’s 20 saves. RIC’s overall record improves to 15-3-0-2, and they fight to keep their spot on top of the entire Colonial division.
Saturday’s road trip down to New Haven, Connecticut ended in sucess as RIC ran away with a 7-3 win against long-time divisional rivals Coast Guard Academy. Again, the Cadets couldn’t find an answer for freshman Rob Reall, who scored his second hat trick of the season, both of them recorded against Coast Guard. Greg Dicomitis and Jack Adamo both had a goal and an assist each, while Seth Tobias and Mike Young scored the other two goals. Goaltender John Sgambato stopped 29 of 32 for the win as RIC’s record improves to 14-3-0-2.
On Friday the 29th of January, RIC faced off against Springfield College of the neighboring Colonial North division of the NECHA. Tom Votta led the way with a goal and an assist, while Bobby Isabella and Dan Nadeau each atributed a goal a piece to help RIC edge Springfield 3-2. Goaltender Eric Moscarelli stopped 28 of 30 in the win. RIC’s record improves to 13-3-0-2 with the win.
RIC woke up early and traveled up to Maine to face off against U. Maine at 12:45 following their St. Joe’s match up the prior night. Although the last time these two met RIC forced the game into overtime and lost in a close fashion, this day, RIC couldn’t pull together a balanced enough attack to rally back. U. Maine ran away with the game 9-3. Seth Tobias led the way with a goal and an assist, while Tom Votta and Kyle Short netted the other two. Goaltender Eric Moscarelli valiantly saved 51 of 60, but it wasn’t enough to edge U. Maine as RIC’s season record dropped to 12-3-0-2.
RIC’s conference record, however, remains on top of the Colonial South conference leader board with a 6-0-0-1 league record, and they look to improve it next weekend with 3 conference games coming up.
RIC ran away with a 12-4 win on Friday, January 22nd against St. Joe’s College of Maine. Bobby Isabella scored a hat trick and had a pair of assists while Bo Atwell, Greg Dicomitis and Brad Conway all scored two a piece. Dan Nadeau, Kyle Short and Mike Young garnered three points each in the game, Nadeau’s via 1 goal & 2 assists and Short and Young via 3 assists a piece. Goaltender John Sgambato stopped 16 of 19 in the first two periods, and fellow netminder Alan Duda saved 5 of 6 in the third.
RIC improved their record to 12-2-0-2 with this win, and look forward to travelling up to Maine to face off for the second time against the University of Maine on Saturday.
RIC drove up to the DCU Center in Worcester to face off against Worcester Polytechnic Institute for the 2010 re-match. About a month earlier, RIC edged the Goats in overtime 6-5, and history repeated itself on this Sunday night at the home of the Worcester Sharks. Once again, RIC squeaked by WPI in overtime, this time with the score of 5-4, due to goaltender John Sgambato’s 26 saves on 30 shots and Gregory Dicomitis game winning overtime goal. The goal was Dicomitis‘ eighth of the year, making him RIC’s 5th top scorer despite the injury suffered on 10/23 @ Brown, causing him to miss ten games. Tom Votta also announced his return to the squad with a power-play goal. Ariel Kurpiewski, Bo Atwell and Bobby Isabella also scored a goal each.
